What Are the Signs and Symptoms of Heroin Addiction?

Here is a few basic signs to watch out for:

Shortness of breath,Dry mouth,Constricted or pupils,Sudden changes in behavior or actions,Disorientation,Cycles of hyper alertness followed by suddenly nodding off,Droopy appearance, as if extremities are heavy

Evidence that a loved one has a Heroin Addiction:

1.) Needles or syringes not used for other medical purposes.
2.) Burned silver spoons.
3.) Aluminum foil or gum wrappers with burn marks.
4.) Missing shoelaces used as a tie off for injection sites.
5.) Straws with burn marks.
6.) Small plastic bags, with white powdery residue.
7.) Water pipes or other pipe.

Watch for the following behavioral Signs of Heroin Addiction:

A.) Lying or other deceptive behavior even stealing to feed the addiction.
B.) Avoiding eye contact, or distant field of vision.
C.) Substantial increases in time spent sleeping.
D.) Increase in slurred, garbled or incoherent speech from the effects of Heroin Use.
E.) Sudden worsening of performance in school or work, including expulsion or loss of jobs.
F.) Decreasing attention to hygiene and physical appearance should raise a red flag.
G.) Loss of motivation and apathy toward future goals and an over all loss of desire in positive things.
H.) Withdrawal from friends and family, instead spending time with new friends with no natural tie.
I.) Lack of interest in hobbies and favorite activities that the addict once enjoyed doing.
J.) Repeatedly stealing or borrowing money from loved ones, or unexplained absence of valuables!
K.) Hostile behaviors toward loved ones, including blaming them for withdrawal.
L.) Regular comments indicating a decline in self esteem or worsening body image or appearance.
M.) Wearing long pants or long sleeves to hide needle marks, even in very warm weather.

Physical symptoms of Heroin Addiction:

1.) Weight loss is common.
2.) Runny nose that is not explained by other illness or medical condition!
3.) Needle track marks visible on arms, legs, and sometimes on hidden areas.
4.) Infections or abscesses at injection site.
5.) For women, loss of menstrual cycle amenorrhea is possible!
6.) Cuts, bruises or scabs from skin picking, track marks, holes and puss oozing from skin.
